The San José del Cabo Fire Department will host the second edition of its Junior Firefighter Fair on Saturday, April 25, timed to coincide with Mexico’s Día del Niño (Children’s Day). All 120 spots filled within two hours of the social media announcement, a sign of strong community demand for the free event.
Children aged 6 to 12 will participate in physical drills and interactive activities modeled on real firefighter training. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the day. Fire commander Omar Barreras Núñez described the fair as a community outreach effort and an early introduction to discipline, teamwork, and emergency prevention.
Second Year for the Popular Event
This is the second year the department has organized the fair. The rapid sellout, with registration closing in roughly 120 minutes, forced the department to turn away additional families. No waitlist was announced.
The San José del Cabo Fire Department, formally known as the H. Cuerpo de Bomberos Voluntarios de San José del Cabo, operates from its central station on Boulevard Antonio Mijares. The department staffs over 80 active firefighters and paramedics who serve a population of roughly 136,000 across 68 square miles at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula.
Station Open Year-Round for Tours
The department noted that its facilities remain open to the public year-round for tours. Families who missed the fair registration can still visit the station to see equipment and meet firefighters on a regular basis.
Día del Niño, celebrated annually on April 30 in Mexico, is one of the country’s most popular family holidays. Schools, businesses, and government agencies often host events for children in the days surrounding the holiday. The fire department’s decision to schedule the fair on April 25 gives families an early celebration option over the weekend before the official date.
