The Los Cabos Institute of Culture and Arts (ICA) will host “Baila Los Cabos: La Fiesta en Movimiento,” a free two-day dance festival on Costa Azul Beach this Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25. The event celebrates International Dance Day with performances, workshops, and a film screening.
Activities begin Friday at 5 p.m. with performances by local dance academies. Styles will range from folkloric to contemporary. After the performances, organizers will screen “Pina,” the acclaimed 2011 documentary about German choreographer Pina Bausch.
Saturday Workshops Open to All Ages
On Saturday, the festival continues with free dance workshops open to participants of all ages. Local academies will also return for a second round of performances. No registration or ticket purchase is required for either day.
Costa Azul Beach sits along the Tourist Corridor between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The beach is well known as a surfing spot and popular recreation area. Its central location along the Transpeninsular Highway (Highway 1) makes it easy to reach from either town.
Part of a Broader Cultural Push
The ICA framed the festival as part of the Los Cabos municipality’s broader effort to bring free cultural programming to public spaces. International Dance Day is observed annually on April 29, a date established by UNESCO in 1982 to honor the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet. Los Cabos is holding its celebration the weekend before the official date.
The event adds to a growing calendar of free public events in the Los Cabos area. The municipal government has used the ICA to organize concerts, art exhibitions, and cultural festivals at parks and beaches throughout the municipality in recent months.
Both days of the festival are free and open to everyone. No advance tickets or reservations are needed. The event was announced by the Los Cabos municipal government via loscabos.gob.mx.
