An open water swimming competition called Mi Cruce al Arco 4K will take place on June 6, 2026, in Cabo San Lucas, with the iconic Arch of Cabo San Lucas (El Arco) as its backdrop. The event, organized by the Open Water Médano team, will offer three race distances designed for swimmers of varying skill levels.

The shortest route, called Manta Raya, covers 1 kilometer. A 2-kilometer course, Ruta Pancho, offers a mid-level challenge. The longest distance, Ruta Marlin, stretches 4 kilometers and is intended for experienced open water swimmers. All routes will be staged in the waters near Playa el Médano, the only swimmable beach in central Cabo San Lucas.

Municipal Authorities Confirm Safety Support

The Los Cabos municipal government has confirmed operational and safety support for the race. ZOFEMAT (Zona Federal Marítimo Terrestre) Los Cabos, the agency responsible for managing federal beach and coastal zones, confirmed its coordinator will help oversee logistics. Open water swimming in the Cabo San Lucas area requires careful planning due to strong currents, particularly on the Pacific side of the peninsula. The race’s location near the protected bay should offer calmer conditions than the open Pacific.

Los Cabos has hosted open water swim events before. The Los Cabos Open Water Challenge, organized by SwimCabo, previously held races near Palmilla Beach and Costa Azul. A longer 32-kilometer marathon swim, the Los Cabos Open Water Acuarium, runs from Puerto Los Cabos to Playa el Médano and has attracted distance swimmers from across Mexico.

Beach and Arroyo Cleanup on World Environment Day

Organizers plan to pair the race with an environmental cleanup the day before. On June 5, which is World Environment Day, volunteers will clean the beach, the seafloor, and a 10-kilometer stretch of arroyo leading to the coast. The event’s motto is “first we clean, then we compete.”

The cleanup component ties the sporting event to a growing focus on ocean conservation in Los Cabos. The Cabo San Lucas Marine Preserve, which surrounds the Arch and Land’s End rock formations, is a protected area home to sea lions, tropical fish, and ray species.

Registration details and entry fees have not yet been announced by the Open Water Médano team. The event was first reported by Colectivo Pericú.
