A 35-year-old man wanted for qualified homicide in the state of Morelos was arrested Tuesday night in San José del Cabo after an interstate law enforcement operation.
Officers from Baja California Sur’s Judicial Warrants Unit detained the suspect, identified only as Mario Alberto “N.,” on the streets of the Guaymitas neighborhood. The arrest followed a formal collaboration request from the Morelos State Attorney General’s Office, which had asked BCS authorities to help locate and apprehend the fugitive.
Interstate Operation Leads to Capture
Mario Alberto “N.” had been the subject of an active arrest warrant for qualified homicide, a charge under Mexican law that applies when aggravating circumstances such as premeditation or a personal relationship with the victim are present. Authorities have not disclosed the details of the original crime in Morelos or when the warrant was issued.
The BCS Judicial Warrants Unit, a specialized division of the state attorney general’s office (FGE) responsible for executing outstanding arrest orders, carried out the operation. The unit located and detained the suspect without incident, according to the original report.
Suspect Transferred to Morelos
Investigators from Morelos traveled to Baja California Sur to take custody of Mario Alberto “N.” and transport him back to their state. He will face a judge in Morelos on the homicide charge. The specific court date has not been made public.
BCS prosecutors stated they will continue honoring collaboration requests from other Mexican states to execute judicial warrants. Under Mexico’s federal system, state prosecutors can issue formal requests to counterparts in other states when suspects flee across state lines. The receiving state’s warrant enforcement units then carry out the arrests locally.
Guaymitas is a residential neighborhood on the north side of San José del Cabo, several kilometers from the tourist corridor and hotel zone. The area is home primarily to local workers and families.
