Los Cabos hosts its 10th annual Ceviche Competition this Sunday, March 15, at the Civic Esplanade of Puerto Los Cabos in the community of La Playa. The event is free and open to the public, with an open tasting after judging wraps up.
The competition runs as part of the 2026 San José del Cabo Traditional Festivals. Professional chefs, culinary students, and amateur cooks all compete in separate categories. Judges evaluate each entry on flavor, presentation, and creativity.
Registration and product weighing begin at 11 a.m. Each competitor brings six kilograms of base product to the starting line. A panel of judges then works through every entry before opening the floor to the public.
Top finishers in the Professional and Amateur/Institutional categories share a prize pool of up to 10,000 pesos, roughly 500 U.S. dollars at current exchange rates.
The Los Cabos municipal government organized the event through its Fisheries and Aquaculture office, with support from CECATI No. 106, a federal vocational training center. Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez said the municipality will provide full logistical support and security for the day.
The competition celebrates local marine products and showcases the culinary traditions that San José del Cabo has built over a decade. For visitors, it is one of the more authentic food experiences the region offers outside of a restaurant setting.
