WBC Silver Title Fight Set for Cabo San Lucas May 16

A World Boxing Council Silver championship fight will take place Saturday, May 16 at the Municipal Auditorium Leonardo Gastélum Villalobos in Cabo San Lucas. The card begins at 8 p.m. and features Israel González against Armando Appel in the main event for the WBC Silver belt.

The fight card includes a full undercard of professional bouts with boxers from across Baja California Sur, including fighters from Los Cabos and La Paz. National television networks Azteca América and Hi Sports will broadcast the event live.

Municipal Government Backs the Event

Víctor Castro Martínez, coordinator of the Secretaría General in Cabo San Lucas, met with event organizers to confirm the city’s support. Castro Martínez said that Los Cabos Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez backs sporting events that promote healthy community engagement and create opportunities for young athletes in the municipality and across the state.

Promoter Roger Peralta organized the event in coordination with INDEM (Instituto del Deporte del Municipio de Los Cabos), the municipal sports institute. Collaboration agreements between Peralta and INDEM secured use of the auditorium and supported improvements to sports facilities in Cabo San Lucas.

Building Boxing Talent in Baja California Sur

Peralta said one of the primary goals of bringing the WBC Silver championship to Los Cabos is developing young boxing talent. He wants to open doors for new professionals in the sport across the state. The national television broadcast will also raise the profile of Los Cabos as a destination for major sporting events.

The Municipal Auditorium Leonardo Gastélum Villalobos is located in central Cabo San Lucas and serves as the city’s main indoor venue for large events. Doors open at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 16.
