Volaris began operating a new nonstop route between Los Cabos and Puebla on Monday, June 1, adding 744 weekly seats on four flights connecting Baja California Sur with central Mexico. The low-cost carrier flies the Los Cabos to Puebla route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays using 186-seat economy-configured aircraft.
Flights depart Puebla at 1:25 p.m. and land at Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) at 2:30 p.m. local time. The return leg leaves Los Cabos at 3:15 p.m. and arrives in Puebla at 6:24 p.m., making it roughly a two-hour flight each way.
Route Could Bring 35,000 Visitors Per Year
Los Cabos tourism officials estimate the connection could deliver more than 35,000 Puebla-origin tourists to the destination annually. Ana Gabriela Navarro González, the municipal director of tourism, called the route a strategic opportunity to expand Los Cabos’s presence in the domestic market and boost local spending.
Navarro González also noted the route will benefit Puebla-born families living in Los Cabos by cutting travel time to their home state. Until now, travelers between the two cities had to connect through Mexico City or Guadalajara.
Los Cabos Domestic Network Doubles in Nine Years
The new flight brings Los Cabos’s domestic route count to 17, up from just eight nine years ago. Rodrigo Esponda, director general of FITURCA (the Los Cabos Tourism Trust), said seat capacity on domestic routes has grown 42% over the past five years.
Volaris alone now operates eight domestic routes from SJD, including service to Tijuana, Mexicali, Guadalajara, and Mexico City. The airline’s broader 2026 expansion plan includes 33 new routes nationwide. From Puebla, Volaris is also adding domestic flights to Aguascalientes, Huatulco, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, León, Puerto Vallarta, San Luis Potosí, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and Villahermosa, along with international service to Houston, Los Angeles, and Newark.
Puebla, a city of roughly 1.7 million people about two hours southeast of Mexico City, is one of Mexico’s largest metro areas. The direct connection places Los Cabos within easy reach of a major population center that previously had no nonstop service to Baja California Sur.
