State security agents arrested a 23-year-old man in Tecate on Sunday afternoon after he allegedly threatened to shoot his girlfriend while she was holding their seven-month-old daughter.

Officers from FESC (Fuerza Estatal de Seguridad Ciudadana) responded to a report from the C5 emergency monitoring center about an armed individual in a Ford Escape near the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood. Agents located and detained the suspect, identified as Jorge Ramón, on Calle Parácuaro.

Suspect Transferred to State Attorney General

Authorities transferred Jorge Ramón to the Baja California state attorney general’s office, where he faces charges of domestic violence and criminal threats. The arrest came after a rapid response to the C5 alert, which tracks emergency calls across the state.

Tecate, a small border city of roughly 110,000 people located about 35 miles southeast of Tijuana, is known primarily for its craft beer scene and its quieter border crossing. The incident took place in broad daylight on a Sunday in a residential area.

Specialized Domestic Violence Unit Deployed

The case drew the rapid deployment of the Escuadrón Violeta, a specialized domestic violence response unit that operates in Baja California. The unit provided the victim with on-scene psychological support, legal guidance, and victim assistance resources.

The Escuadrón Violeta was created as part of Baja California’s broader effort to address gender-based violence across the state. The unit operates not only in Tijuana and Mexicali but also in smaller cities like Tecate, Ensenada, and Rosarito. Its agents are trained to respond specifically to domestic violence calls and to connect victims with services immediately.

For anyone in Baja California experiencing domestic violence, the C5 emergency line and the 911 system can dispatch the Escuadrón Violeta directly to the scene.
