Two charity road races will take place on Sunday, May 3 in the Los Cabos region, one in downtown Cabo San Lucas and the other in Todos Santos. Both events raise money for local nonprofits and are open to runners and walkers of all levels.
Cabo San Lucas: Building Baja’s Future Scholarship Run
The first race, organized by Building Baja’s Future, begins at 7 a.m. at Plaza Bonita in downtown Cabo San Lucas. Participants can choose from a 3K walk, a 5K run, or a 10K run. Race-day registration costs 650 pesos (about $37 USD).
All proceeds go toward university scholarships for students from underserved communities in Baja California Sur. Building Baja’s Future, founded in 2006, has supported more than 600 students and covers 100 percent of university tuition for qualifying recipients.
Todos Santos: Third Edition Benefits Padrino Children’s Hospital
The second race marks its third edition in Todos Santos, roughly 50 miles north of Cabo San Lucas on Highway 19. Proceeds from this event support Padrino Children, a nonprofit working to build a hospital in the town.
The course starts at Casa Tere on Calle Miguel Hidalgo in the historic center. Runners climb Del Huerto, then descend Benito Juárez past Hotel California. The route continues through the Palmar area, known for shaded trails and irrigation canals, before reaching the turnaround point at Café La Esquina.
The return leg includes the steepest climb of the race, described as short but demanding. Runners then pass Todos Santos Inn and Álvaro Obregón Street before finishing back at Casa Tere. Registration is available online at 5k.amyrextodossantos.com.
Two Races, Two Causes
Both events follow a recent Race with a Cause event that took place in downtown Cabo San Lucas earlier this spring. The May 3 races offer two distinct settings: a flat urban course through Cabo’s commercial center and a hilly route through Todos Santos’ colonial streets and agricultural outskirts.
No pre-registration deadline has been announced for the Cabo San Lucas race, and walk-up entries will be accepted on race day at Plaza Bonita. This story was first reported by the Gringo Gazette.
