The International Spiritual Film Festival, known by its Spanish acronym FICES, will include San José del Cabo as a stop on its 2026 national touring circuit. Screenings run from April 30 to May 13, bringing more than 14 international feature films and documentaries to the southern Baja California Sur destination.
FICES is organized by the Episcopal Commission for Pastoral Communication (CEPCOM) in partnership with the Archdiocese of Guadalajara. The festival tours affiliated venues across Mexico each year, and 2026 marks the first time San José del Cabo has appeared on the schedule.
What to Expect From the Festival
The program features international feature films and documentaries centered on themes of human dignity, hope, and reconciliation. Organizers have stressed that the festival is not limited to strictly religious content, aiming instead for broad accessibility.
Screenings in San José del Cabo will be integrated into the festival’s general national program. Local authorities are coordinating with FICES organizers on venue selection and scheduling, though neither specific theaters nor screening times have been confirmed yet.
A Different Kind of Film Event for Los Cabos
Los Cabos already hosts a well-known cinema event each year: the Los Cabos International Film Festival, which takes place in November and focuses on feature films from Mexico, the United States, and Canada. FICES is a separate, unrelated event with a distinct mission rooted in Catholic social teaching, though its programming draws from international cinema more broadly.
The FICES touring model differs from a traditional single-city festival. Rather than concentrating all screenings in one location over a few days, the festival moves across multiple Mexican cities during its two-week window. San José del Cabo will host only a portion of the full lineup on dates still to be determined.
How to Stay Updated
Organizers are posting scheduling updates and venue announcements on Instagram at @ficesmx. Residents and visitors interested in attending should follow that account for confirmed showtimes and locations in San José del Cabo as the April 30 start date approaches.
