The Los Cabos municipal government awarded 150,000 pesos ($8,300 USD) in prizes to winners of the allegorical float contest held during the XV Fiestas Tradicionales de San José del Cabo. The San José del Cabo float contest, a centerpiece of the annual patron saint festival, drew entries from local schools, community groups, and businesses competing on creativity and cultural representation.

Saldos Díaz took first place and a 60,000 peso ($3,300 USD) prize. Centro Educativo Camikary, a local school, earned second place and 50,000 pesos ($2,800 USD). Carpintería Solórzano, a woodworking shop, placed third with a 40,000 peso ($2,200 USD) award. Judges evaluated each float on its depiction of San José del Cabo’s history and traditions.

Float Parade Rolls Through Downtown San José del Cabo

The float parade is one of the most visible events during the Fiestas Tradicionales, which ran from March 18 to March 22 this year. Decorated floats typically roll through the streets near Boulevard Mijares and the downtown historic district, each representing a facet of life in Baja California Sur. Performers in costume accompany the floats with live music and choreographed dances.

The multi-day festival honors San José (Saint Joseph), the town’s patron saint, with a feast day on March 19. The celebration dates back to the founding of the Misión San José del Cabo in 1730. This year’s edition also featured carnival rides, livestock exhibitions, food vendors, and the crowning of a festival queen.

Concerts Relocated to Reduce Downtown Traffic

For 2026, organizers moved the Teatro del Pueblo main concert stage to a large lot in front of the CRIT Los Cabos facility, just off Camino Real del Tildillo. The move was intended to ease traffic congestion in the downtown core. The concert lineup included Edén Muñoz, Gabito Ballesteros, Enrique Iglesias, and Julión Álvarez.

Road closures along Boulevard Mijares and heavy traffic near the historic center affected drivers during the festival, particularly around the March 19 horse parade. The annual event remains one of the largest cultural gatherings in the Los Cabos municipality, drawing thousands of residents and visitors to San José del Cabo’s colonial downtown each year, according to the Los Cabos municipal government.
