The Los Cabos municipal government announced on March 19 that parking at the San José del Cabo Traditional Fiesta 2026 is now free for the duration of the festival. Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez, who leads the Fiesta Organizing Committee, said the decision aims to improve accessibility and safety for families attending the celebrations near Plaza Teniente José Antonio Mijares in the heart of San José del Cabo’s historic downtown.

DIF Lot Holds Over 3,500 Vehicles

The free parking is available at a lot operated by the municipal DIF (Mexico’s family services agency). The lot has capacity for more than 3,500 vehicles and will remain free throughout the festival period. Private parking options still exist in surrounding areas for those who prefer alternatives.

The fiesta is one of Los Cabos’ largest annual cultural events. It centers on March 19, the feast day of San José (Saint Joseph), the patron saint of the town. Most of the action takes place around Plaza Mijares, the main public square in San José del Cabo’s colonial-era downtown, about 20 miles northeast of Cabo San Lucas along the Tourist Corridor.

Sashimi Fest and Livestock Fair Among 2026 Events

Mayor Agúndez Gómez unveiled the full 2026 festival lineup on February 27. Events include a “Sashimi Fest” on March 14 at Plaza Mijares that aims to set a Guinness World Record. A queen’s pageant took place on March 15, also at the plaza. March 19 featured the Tradicional Cabalgata (horseback parade) and the opening of the Exposición Ganadera y Agrícola (livestock and agriculture fair) at 2:00 p.m.

The fiesta draws thousands of locals and visitors each year with live music, food stalls, carnival rides, and cultural programming. Because the celebrations span several days, the free parking lot is expected to see heavy use during evening concerts and weekend events.

San José del Cabo’s downtown streets become congested during the fiesta, so arriving early and using the DIF lot on the festival’s perimeter is the most practical option. The lot is free for the remainder of the festival period, according to the Los Cabos municipal government website.
