Baja California Sur’s SNE (National Employment Service) opened a recruitment drive on March 16 for nursing technicians to work in Germany’s healthcare system. The program, part of Mexico’s federal Labor Mobility Mechanism, offers a starting salary of 52,000 pesos ($2,890 USD) per month, with raises after candidates complete credential recognition in Germany.
Requirements and Application Process in La Paz
Candidates must hold a technical nursing degree, a professional license (cédula profesional), and at least six months of clinical work experience. Applicants can visit the SNE office on Calle Ignacio Allende, between Melitón Albáñez and Ensenada, in downtown La Paz for orientation and help with the selection process.
Selected nurses will receive visa support, German language training in Mexico City, and assistance validating their Mexican credentials with German health authorities. Germany requires foreign nurses to reach B2 proficiency in German before they can practice, so the language course is a central part of the pipeline.
Why Germany Is Hiring Mexican Nurses
Germany faces a severe nursing shortage driven by its aging population. The country lacks tens of thousands of nurses and actively recruits from Latin America, Asia, and Eastern Europe. Entry-level nurses in Germany earn between €2,500 and €3,000 per month (roughly 46,000 to 55,000 pesos at current exchange rates). Pay rises with experience and specialization, and the full process from application to placement typically takes 6 to 12 months.
Once credential recognition is complete, international nurses earn on the same pay scale as their German counterparts. Benefits include 24 to 30 days of paid vacation, universal health insurance, and employer pension contributions.
Local Impact on BCS Healthcare Staffing
Baja California Sur already struggles with healthcare staffing shortages, particularly in smaller towns like Mulegé and Loreto. The state’s public hospitals and IMSS (Mexico’s social security health system) clinics regularly post unfilled nursing positions. Programs that send trained nurses abroad can deepen that gap, even as they offer individual workers a significant income boost.
The SNE office in La Paz continues to accept inquiries about the Germany program. Interested applicants should bring their professional license, proof of work experience, and identification to the Ignacio Allende office, according to BCS Noticias.
