The Mi Chante Foundation will host its sixth annual charity golf tournament on Thursday, May 21, at Club Campestre de Tijuana. This year’s edition honors former Tijuana footballer Fernando Arce, with proceeds going to programs that support young athletes across Baja California.
Abelardo Peña, founder of the Mi Chante Foundation, announced the event at a press conference on May 12. “As a sportsman and a Tijuana footballer, I feel very proud to be part of a cause that supports people in other sports,” Arce said at the event. “These causes are very important, and it’s always good for us Tijuanenses to come together and support them.”
A Tradition Since 2019
The tournament has been a fixture on Tijuana’s social calendar since 2019. Each edition pays tribute to a prominent sports figure. Past honorees include boxing legends Julio César Chávez and Erik “Terrible” Morales, as well as golfer Víctor Regalado. The fifth edition, held in May 2025, honored the late José Sulaimán, the longtime president of the World Boxing Council (WBC).
Arce, this year’s honoree, is a former Mexican national team player and a standout figure at Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente, the city’s Liga MX franchise. His selection connects the tournament to Tijuana’s strong football identity.
WBC Support and Local Sponsors
Peña thanked Mauricio Sulaimán, current WBC president, for his continued backing of the initiative. Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles will serve as the headline sponsor for the 2026 tournament, linking the city’s football and golf communities in a single charitable effort.
The Mi Chante Foundation focuses on helping young people achieve their goals in competitive sports. Funds raised at the annual tournament go directly toward training, equipment, and competition costs for athletes in the region.
Club Campestre de Tijuana, the host venue, is located in the Chapultepec area of the city, roughly 15 minutes south of the San Ysidro border crossing. The course is one of the most established golf facilities in Baja California.
