Los Cabos Mayor Christian Agúndez chaired the final technical mobility session on Tuesday to review the Glorieta de las Mujeres Libres de BCS roundabout project. He declared the main roadwork essentially complete and said beautification work will begin in the coming weeks.

The roundabout, located in the municipality of Los Cabos, is separate from the larger Fonatur Roundabout overpass project in San José del Cabo, which was reported at 72% completion in late February. The Glorieta de las Mujeres Libres de BCS is a municipal-level project that Agúndez called a model for future mobility improvements across the municipality.

Beautification Work Ahead

With structural and road construction finished, the next phase will cover landscaping, aesthetics, signage, and some repaving. The municipal government will direct this final stage, which is expected to take several weeks.

Agúndez framed the project as a template for a coordinated approach between municipal, state, and federal agencies on future road work. He said Los Cabos plans to repeat the model on upcoming infrastructure projects throughout the municipality.

Part of a Broader Infrastructure Push

The roundabout’s completion comes during a period of heavy construction activity across Los Cabos. The Fonatur Roundabout underpass project in San José del Cabo, a 469 million peso (roughly $26 million USD) overpass designed to ease a notorious bottleneck on the airport highway, is aiming for completion by summer 2026. That junction handles an estimated 60,000 vehicles daily and connects the San José del Cabo Hotel Zone, the airport highway, and the tourist corridor leading to Cabo San Lucas.

The municipality has also recently acquired 20 new garbage trucks and 20 water tankers as part of broader public services upgrades. Los Cabos officials have set targets that include a 20% reduction in traffic accidents and a 15% improvement in travel times for local drivers.

Drivers using the corridor near the Glorieta de las Mujeres Libres de BCS should expect minor disruptions during the signage and landscaping phase. The main lanes are open to traffic.
