The municipality of Los Cabos will hold its first Semana de la Tierra (Earth Week) from April 20 through April 22, with free public events in San José del Cabo themed around sustainability and environmental awareness.

The three-day program, branded “Los Cabos Late Sostenible” (Los Cabos Beats Sustainably), is organized by INDESO, the municipal Institute for Sustainable Development. Events begin Sunday, April 20, with a civic ceremony at Plaza Antonio Mijares, the main square in downtown San José del Cabo.

Film Screening and Sustainable Market

On Monday, April 21, organizers will screen the Studio Ghibli animated film “Ponyo” at the Puerto Los Cabos Marina. The marina is located on the east side of San José del Cabo, roughly 10 minutes from the historic center.

Tuesday, April 22, marks Earth Day and serves as the program’s centerpiece. A sustainable market will open that afternoon on Calle Morelos in San José del Cabo’s historic center, a pedestrian-friendly street well known to residents and visitors for its shops and restaurants. The market will include a community mural where attendees can post personal environmental pledges.

Part of a Broader Municipal Push

The initiative falls under the administration of Los Cabos Mayor Christian Agúndez Gómez. Municipal officials have framed Earth Week as part of a longer-term effort to build environmental programming into the city’s public event calendar, not just a one-off celebration.

Los Cabos has faced growing environmental pressure in recent years as tourism and residential development have surged across the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula. Water scarcity, coastal erosion, and waste management remain persistent concerns for the municipality, which now receives roughly six million visitors per year.

All Earth Week events are free and open to the public. No registration is required. Details were published by the Los Cabos municipal government at loscabos.gob.mx.
