The Institute of Culture and Arts (ICA) of Los Cabos opened the second edition of its Festival de Artes para las Infancias with a theatrical performance at the Casa de la Cultura in Miraflores. The theater company Tigres del Sur Teatro staged “La Carpa de los Sueños” (The Tent of Dreams) for an audience of children, parents, and local officials.
ICA general director Tania Covarrubias Martínez is leading the festival, which aims to bring live arts and theater to children across the Los Cabos municipality. Before the main performance, instructors from the Casa de la Cultura led interactive activities for attending families.
Theater Comes to a Farming Town
Miraflores is a small agricultural community about 40 minutes north of San José del Cabo on the road to the Sierra de la Laguna. The town is best known for its organic farms, leather goods, and regional cuisine. It sits well outside the tourist corridor, making it an unusual but deliberate choice for the festival’s opening event.
By launching in Miraflores rather than in Cabo San Lucas or San José del Cabo, ICA is directing cultural programming toward communities that typically see fewer public events. The Casa de la Cultura in Miraflores serves as one of several municipal cultural centers operated by the Los Cabos government.
Second Year for the Festival
This is the second annual edition of the children’s arts festival. The program is designed to rotate through different locations in the municipality, though ICA has not yet published a full schedule of upcoming dates and venues. The first edition took place in 2024.
Los Cabos has been expanding its cultural calendar in recent years. The municipality already hosts weekly Art Walk events on Thursday evenings in the San José del Cabo gallery district, as well as annual festivals like Sabor a Cabo and the Los Cabos International Film Festival. The children’s arts festival adds a family and youth focus to that lineup.
Families interested in future performances can check with the ICA or the Casa de la Cultura in their area for upcoming dates. The festival is free and open to the public, as reported by the Los Cabos municipal government.
