The Los Cabos Municipal Women’s Institute (IMMLC) held a free community health fair called “Cuidando a Mamá” (Caring for Mom) at Plaza León Cota Collins in Cabo San Lucas. The event brought together multiple municipal agencies to provide preventive medical care, dental services, psychological support, and legal advice to local women at no cost.

Services at the Health Fair

Women who attended the fair received preventive medical consultations and dental care on site. The event also offered information about a mammogram program available to women over 35, along with access to psychological support and legal counseling.

Several municipal departments participated in the event. The Municipal Health Institute, INJUVE (the youth institute), the Human Rights Coordination office, and the Cabo San Lucas fire department all staffed booths or provided services during the fair.

Year-Round Free Clinic for Women

The health fair was a single-day event, but ongoing free services remain available to women in Los Cabos throughout the year. The Unidad Médica Altamira, located in Fraccionamiento Altamira on Calle San Lázaro, operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Women need only bring a copy of their INE (Mexico’s national voter ID) or an equivalent identification document to access care.

Foreign residents who do not hold an INE can present an equivalent form of ID. The clinic provides medical services at no charge to all women in the municipality.

24-Hour Crisis Line Available

The IMMLC also operates a 24-hour emergency phone line called Línea Naranja. The hotline serves women experiencing domestic violence or other crisis situations and is available around the clock, seven days a week.

Los Cabos has expanded its network of women’s services in recent years through the IMMLC, which coordinates health, legal, and psychological resources across the municipality. The “Cuidando a Mamá” event is part of a broader push by the municipal government to bring free preventive care directly into public spaces where women can access it without appointments or fees.

The event was first reported by the Los Cabos municipal government website.
