Los Cabos will gain nonstop service from four Canadian cities for the 2026-2027 winter season, with two carriers launching new routes to San José del Cabo International Airport (SJD). Rodrigo Esponda, director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (Fideicomiso de Turismo de Los Cabos), announced the expansion on April 30.
Porter Airlines will operate three of the four new routes. Toronto service begins November 16 with three flights per week. Edmonton launches the same day with four weekly flights. Ottawa follows on December 18 with twice-weekly service.
Air Transat Adds Montreal Route
Air Transat will begin weekly nonstop flights from Montreal to Los Cabos on December 10, 2026. The Montreal route fills a gap in eastern Canada, where demand for Los Cabos has grown rapidly in recent years.
The new routes mark a strategic push into eastern Canada. Vancouver and Calgary have long served as the primary Canadian gateways to Los Cabos, but the addition of Ottawa and expanded Toronto and Montreal service opens direct access for travelers in Ontario and Quebec. Those provinces account for a growing share of Canadian visitors to the region.
Canada Is Second-Largest International Market
Canada ranks as the second-largest international source market for Los Cabos, behind only the United States. Roughly 215,000 Canadian tourists visited Los Cabos last year. Canadian visitors tend to stay longer than their American counterparts, averaging about 10 days compared to five days for U.S. travelers.
The expansion builds on existing winter service. During the current season, SJD already receives nonstop flights from eight Canadian cities, including Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, Edmonton, Kelowna, Victoria, and Winnipeg. Peak winter months see approximately 43 nonstop flights per week from Canada.
Airlines Cite Strong Demand
Both Porter and Air Transat pointed to consistent, strong demand as the reason for adding capacity. The new routes will increase the total number of Canadian cities with direct winter service to Los Cabos, giving snowbirds and vacationers more scheduling flexibility and shorter travel times.
SJD airport now welcomes more than 900 weekly flights from across North America, making it one of Mexico’s best-connected resort airports. The Canadian expansion is expected to push that number higher during the 2026-2027 winter peak.
