Ensenada’s 2026 Carnival got underway this week as families lined the waterfront for the festival’s first light parade. Illuminated floats and traditional carnival performers moved through the city center, drawing large crowds and marking the official start of one of Baja California’s most important annual events.
Ensenada Carnival is the region’s signature winter festival and a major driver of local tourism revenue. Restaurants, hotels, and vendors along the waterfront corridor see significant business during the run of the celebration. The festival typically draws visitors from across Baja, mainland Mexico, and Southern California.
The light parade is one of the event’s signature attractions and traditionally sets the tone for the weeks ahead. This year’s opening drew families and tourists to the malecon, Ensenada’s seaside promenade, for an evening of music, color, and celebration.
If you are planning to visit Ensenada during Carnival, expect heavier traffic on the Tijuana-Ensenada toll road, particularly on weekends. Downtown parking fills quickly on parade nights. The waterfront and surrounding streets will see large pedestrian crowds throughout the festival period.
Carnival runs for several weeks. BDN will publish the full schedule of events as details become available from Ensenada’s municipal tourism office.
