Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda announced a new police barracks will open in San Quintín between October and November 2026. The facility will house 100 agents of the FESC, the state’s Citizen Security Force, a uniformed law enforcement corps that operates across Baja California.
The barracks will sit in the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood, between Benito Juárez and Francisco I. Madero avenues. Construction starts in April 2026. The state infrastructure ministry has already approved the 30 million peso project.
“We are building these FESC facilities,” the governor said at a morning press conference in San Quintín on March 10. “We just finished the one in La Rumorosa. We will start in San Quintín very soon. “
State Security Secretary Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez confirmed the investment figure and the timeline. He said the facility will give the region a permanent, dedicated base for state security operations.
The San Quintín valley is one of Baja California’s largest agricultural zones. Tens of thousands of farmworkers live and work there, and the area draws produce buyers, NGO workers, and visitors traveling the Highway 1 corridor. Until now, state police capacity in the region has been limited compared to northern border cities.
The new facility follows the recent completion of a FESC barracks in La Rumorosa, a mountain community on the Tijuana-Mexicali highway. Governor Avila Olmeda has framed both projects as part of a statewide push to expand security infrastructure beyond the major urban centers.
For residents and frequent travelers in the San Quintín corridor, the barracks represents a meaningful increase in local law enforcement capacity. Operations are expected to begin before the end of 2026.
