The King Shocks Dos Mares 500 off-road race will take over roads across the southern tip of Baja California Sur from May 1 to 3, with the start and finish line set in San José del Cabo’s hotel zone. Motorcycles launch at noon on race day, followed by four-wheeled vehicles at 4 p.m.

The 500-kilometer course lives up to its name, “Two Seas,” by crossing from the Sea of Cortez side to terrain near the Pacific Ocean. Checkpoints are set at Palo Escopeta, the Cabo Pulmo highway, Los Barriles, Los Planes, Ejido Álvaro Obregón, and El Pescadero before racers loop back to the finish in San José del Cabo.

Route Covers East Cape and Pacific Side

The race course sweeps through a wide section of the East Cape, passing near the coastal towns of Cabo Pulmo and Los Barriles before heading inland to Los Planes. It then cuts west toward the Pacific through Ejido Álvaro Obregón and El Pescadero, a farming and surf community roughly 70 kilometers north of Cabo San Lucas on Highway 19.

Past editions have drawn more than 200 teams from Mexico, the United States, and other countries, competing in both motorcycle and vehicle categories. The 2024 edition, the 29th running, was staged out of La Paz. This year the race returns to the Los Cabos municipality as its base.

Officials Urge Spectators to Stay Safe

Víctor Montaño Gaytán, the Los Cabos municipal public relations director, asked spectators to respect speed zones, stay within designated safe areas along the route, and keep the course clean. Expect road activity, dust, and crowds along Highway 1 between San José del Cabo and Los Barriles, as well as on the Pacific side near El Pescadero.

Los Cabos is no stranger to high-profile desert racing. The 59th SCORE Baja 1000, part of the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship, is also scheduled to finish in Los Cabos in November. The Dos Mares 500 offers a more regional flavor, long considered a hometown favorite among Baja California Sur motorsport fans.
