Baja California Sur expects an average hotel occupancy rate of 70% in July, with more than 390,000 tourists projected to stay at lodging establishments across the state, according to Tourism and Economy Secretary Maribel Collins.
The projected economic impact for the month is 2.069 billion pesos (roughly $103 million USD). Collins said the figures reflect continued confidence from both national and international visitors in BCS as a safe and competitive destination.
Strong Demand Across 500 Hotels Statewide
The state’s more than 500 hotels and 29,000-plus rooms will absorb the surge. Los Cabos, which already maintains an annual occupancy rate of about 70%, is expected to see the highest demand. Last July, the Los Cabos corridor reported 74% occupancy with an average nightly rate of $389 USD.
Collins noted that BCS currently has the highest hotel rates for beach and sun destinations in the country. Between 40,000 and 50,000 people stay in the state’s lodging establishments each month on average, and summer brings a significant spike above that baseline.
BCS Leads Mexico in Foreign Tourism Investment
The summer occupancy projection comes as the state continues to lead Mexico in foreign direct investment in tourism. In the first quarter of 2026, BCS attracted $191.5 million USD in foreign direct investment, representing 31% of the national total. Quintana Roo and Nayarit trailed in second and third place.
Agustín Olachea, president of the Hotel and Tourism Companies Association (Emprhotur), has said that while tourism investment has slowed in mainland Mexico, BCS remains steady. The state’s GDP grew 3.5% in real terms in 2024, driven largely by hospitality and food services, which expanded 10.4%.
Popular Destinations Beyond Los Cabos
Demand is not limited to the Los Cabos corridor. The Pueblos Mágicos of Todos Santos, Loreto, and Santa Rosalía also draw summer visitors. La Paz recorded 66% occupancy in 2025, while Loreto reached 58%. Those numbers are expected to climb as the destinations gain international recognition.
Travelers planning July visits should expect premium pricing at peak properties, particularly along the Tourist Corridor between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Booking early is advisable given the tightening supply.
