Baja California Sur is promoting 13 tourism investment projects worth an estimated $3.821 billion at the 50th edition of Tianguis Turístico México 2026 in Acapulco. The state’s delegation of 48 companies is holding business meetings with buyers from 17 countries at the annual trade fair, which runs April 27 through 30 at the Expo Mundo Imperial venue.

Maribel Collins, head of BCS’s Secretaría de Turismo y Economía (SETUE), is leading the delegation. The $3.821 billion investment portfolio spans 2024 to 2026 and was presented during a forum titled “Financing and Investment in Mexico’s Tourism Sector: Public Policy and Alliances to Drive Development.”

48 BCS Companies Meet International Buyers

The Tianguis Turístico, Mexico’s largest annual tourism trade event, drew more than 8,000 participants this year. Around 1,000 international buyers from 17 countries attended to negotiate deals with destinations across the country. BCS’s 48 participating companies held scheduled meetings with tour operators and buyers throughout the four-day event.

Collins said the state is promoting its natural, cultural, and culinary offerings to strengthen its position as a world-class destination. The goal is to attract more visitors, improve air connectivity, and drive economic development across the peninsula.

National Leaders Open the 50th Edition

Federal Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez inaugurated the event on behalf of President Claudia Sheinbaum. Federal Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora and Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda also attended the opening ceremony. The Acapulco venue marks a return to the Pacific coast resort city, which has worked to rebuild its tourism profile after Hurricane Otis devastated it in October 2023.

Baja California, the neighboring state to the north, also opened its own pavilion at the event. That delegation, led by tourism secretary Miguel Ángel Badiola Montaño, promoted seven destinations across the border state.

For BCS, the 13 projects in the investment portfolio could translate into new resort construction, expanded hotel capacity, and improved flight routes to Los Cabos and La Paz. Collins said the state government is committed to working with federal authorities and the private sector to grow BCS’s share of both domestic and international tourism markets.
