Municipal police in Cabo San Lucas rescued a woman held captive in a wooden structure in the Colonia Leonardo Gastélum neighborhood on March 19, after neighbors heard her cries for help and called authorities. The victim, found in shock, told officers she had been threatened with death and sexually assaulted by her captor.
Emergency Call at 7:35 a.m. Triggered Police Response
The woman herself placed an emergency call to the Los Cabos Public Safety Department at 7:35 a.m., asking for immediate help. Neighbors in the surrounding area also contacted police after hearing screams coming from inside the structure. Officers arrived and forced entry, finding the victim inside.
Paramedics and psychological support personnel responded to the scene. The woman received immediate medical attention, though authorities have not released her name or the name of her alleged attacker. Colonia Leonardo Gastélum sits in one of Cabo San Lucas’s inland residential zones, several blocks west of the downtown tourist corridor.
State Attorney General Opens Rape Investigation
Baja California Sur’s FGE (state attorney general’s office) opened a formal investigation into the incident, classifying the case under charges of rape and related crimes. Agents from the Criminal Investigation Agency collected physical evidence at the location where the woman was held.
The FGE has not announced any arrests in connection with the case. Authorities did not disclose how long the woman had been held or her relationship, if any, to the suspect. The investigation remains active.
Los Cabos has seen increased attention to crimes against women in recent years. In August 2025, six Cabo San Lucas police officers were arrested by state authorities and Mexican Marines on kidnapping and extortion charges, a case that drew national headlines and raised questions about public safety oversight in the municipality.
The FGE urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity through emergency lines, calling the neighbor reports in this case essential to the rescue. The investigation is ongoing, and prosecutors are expected to provide updates as evidence processing continues, according to Colectivo Pericú.
