State security agents arrested a 21-year-old Mexicali woman Monday morning after she tried to hide under a parked vehicle to avoid police on Avenida Puerto Plata in the Villa del Palmar neighborhood.

Officers from the FESC (Fuerza Estatal de Seguridad Ciudadana) International Liaison unit spotted Ariana Lizbeth walking along the avenue. When she noticed the patrol, she attempted to conceal herself beneath a parked car. Agents detained her and ran a database check.

Active Warrant for Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor

The check confirmed Ariana Lizbeth had an active arrest warrant for aggravated sexual abuse of a child under 14. The warrant was issued under case number 02-2024-07317. Authorities did not release further details about the underlying case or when the alleged abuse occurred.

After her detention, officers transferred her to the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), Baja California’s State Attorney General’s office, for processing. She will face judicial proceedings on the warrant charge.

Ongoing Warrant Enforcement in Mexicali

The arrest is part of routine warrant enforcement by the FESC’s International Liaison unit, which operates in the Mexicali area. Baja California law enforcement agencies have carried out a steady pace of warrant arrests in recent months. In October 2024, Mexicali police arrested a man on an outstanding homicide warrant in Colonia Flores Magón, and an armed woman was detained on a robbery warrant around the same period.

Courts in Mexicali have also recently sentenced individuals on sexual abuse charges. In late 2024, Juan Jesús Pérez Varela received 14 years and eight months for sexual abuse, while Rutilio Luciano Ventura Gallardo was sentenced to 12 years for abusing a minor between 2019 and 2021.

Villa del Palmar is a residential neighborhood in southeastern Mexicali, near the city’s commercial corridors. Avenida Puerto Plata runs through the area and is well traveled during morning hours.
