State police arrested a 37-year-old man on Saturday morning, April 11, on a judicial warrant for alleged vehicle theft in Guerrero Negro. Officers from the Judicial Warrants Unit of the Baja California Sur (BCS) state police located Jovan “N” on Avenida Carlos Moreno in the Unidad Deportiva neighborhood of Santa Rosalía.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Authorities transferred him to judicial officials, who will determine his legal status under due process, according to the BCS Attorney General’s office (Procuraduría General de Justicia del Estado).
Arrest Carried Out Across the Peninsula
The arrest took place roughly 220 kilometers south of Guerrero Negro, where the alleged theft occurred. Santa Rosalía, a small mining town on the Sea of Cortez coast, sits along the Transpeninsular Highway (Highway 1) between Guerrero Negro and Mulegé.
BCS state prosecutors said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to execute outstanding judicial warrants across the peninsula. The Judicial Warrants Unit is a specialized division within the state police tasked with tracking and apprehending suspects who have active arrest orders issued by judges.
Vehicle Theft in Baja California Sur
Vehicle theft remains a persistent concern along the central desert corridor of Baja California Sur. Guerrero Negro, located just south of the state border with Baja California, serves as a gateway town for travelers heading to points south along the peninsula. The town is best known for its gray whale watching season and the Ojo de Liebre lagoon.
Under Mexican law, the suspect’s last name is withheld during the investigation phase. Jovan “N” faces charges related to the theft, though specific details about the stolen vehicle and the date of the alleged crime were not disclosed.
The BCS Attorney General’s office did not provide additional information about whether other suspects are being sought in connection with the case. The story was first reported by Colectivo Pericú.
