Tijuana Municipal Police arrested a 23-year-old man wanted for homicide on Tuesday, May 26, after he fled a routine traffic stop in the Hacienda Santa María subdivision on the city’s eastern edge.

Officers on patrol pulled over a Ford F-150 pickup for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as José Ubaldo “N,” abandoned the vehicle and ran on foot. Police caught him nearby after a brief chase.

Warrant Confirmed Through Radio Check

A radio check on José Ubaldo’s identity revealed an active arrest warrant for homicide. Officers turned him over to the Baja California Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado, or FGE) for processing.

Authorities did not release details about the homicide case linked to the warrant, including when or where the alleged crime took place. No weapons were reported found during the arrest, and the incident ended without injuries to officers or bystanders.

Routine Patrols in Eastern Tijuana

Hacienda Santa María is a residential subdivision located in Tijuana’s sprawling eastern zone, an area that has grown rapidly over the past two decades. The neighborhood sits well away from the tourist corridor near the border crossing and downtown, but it is part of the municipal police’s regular patrol grid.

The arrest is the latest example of Tijuana police identifying wanted suspects through standard traffic enforcement. Radio checks during vehicle stops remain one of the most common methods for locating individuals with outstanding warrants in Baja California.

Tijuana continues to record one of the highest homicide rates in Mexico, though the city has seen fluctuations in recent years. Municipal and state law enforcement agencies have maintained an emphasis on warrant service and patrol operations in residential areas across the metro area.

The FGE has not announced formal charges or a court date in connection with the arrest. This story was first reported by Jornada BC.
