Security forces raided a home in Mexicali’s Valle Dorado neighborhood and discovered an arsenal of weapons and tactical equipment linked to the killings of two state police officers last weekend. The Baja California state attorney general’s office (FGE) coordinated the operation, which involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
The search warrant was executed at a residence in eastern Mexicali. Investigators believe the firearms and tactical gear recovered from the property were used in the targeted attacks on two officers of the Fuerza Estatal de Seguridad Ciudadana (FESC), the state’s citizen security force.
Officers Killed in Separate Attacks Days Apart
The two FESC officers were killed in separate incidents within hours of each other late last month. One of the victims, 32-year-old Manuel Enrique Guerrero Sánchez, was gunned down at a taquería in Mexicali. A woman was also wounded in that attack and was reported in serious condition.
At a press conference following the killings, Baja California Security Minister Laureano Carrillo and state Attorney General María Elena Andrade said the attacks appeared to be retaliation. The officials tied the shootings to recent security operations in the Valley of Mexicali, where an alleged member of the Los Rusos criminal group was killed in a confrontation with state police.
Sinaloa Cartel Faction Suspected
Los Rusos is a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel operating in the Mexicali area. The cartel has been fractured by internal warfare since September 2024, when Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada was transferred to U.S. authorities by members of the rival Chapitos faction. That conflict has produced more than 4,000 deaths and disappearances across northwestern Mexico.
The recovery of tactical equipment alongside weapons at the Valle Dorado property is consistent with organized criminal operations. Authorities have not announced arrests in connection with the raid, and the FGE investigation remains active.
Valle Dorado sits in eastern Mexicali, roughly 15 minutes from the Calexico border crossing. The neighborhood is primarily residential and is not far from agricultural communities in the Valley of Mexicali where recent anti-cartel operations have taken place.
The FGE has not released a detailed inventory of the weapons seized. No timeline has been given for potential arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
