Ensenada police arrested a man in the early hours of May 29 after he attempted to rob two motorcyclists outside a convenience store in the city’s Lomitas neighborhood. Officers found a concealed blade weapon on the suspect at the time of his detention.
The incident took place near the corner of Calle Once and Sokolow, a residential area in central Ensenada. Two victims on motorcycles flagged down a passing patrol unit to report the attempted assault. Neither victim was injured.
Quick Response Led to On-Scene Arrest
Officers responded with support from the C5 monitoring system, Ensenada’s centralized surveillance and emergency coordination center. The patrol unit located and detained the suspect near the scene. Police confiscated the blade weapon as evidence.
The C5 system operates a network of security cameras and coordinates emergency responses across the municipality. Its involvement in this case allowed officers to confirm the suspect’s description and track his movements in real time.
Street Crime in Ensenada’s Residential Areas
The Lomitas neighborhood sits east of the city center, away from the tourist corridor along Avenida López Mateos and the waterfront. While Ensenada’s main commercial and tourist areas see regular police patrols, residential streets in neighborhoods like Lomitas can be quieter late at night.
The arrest occurred during the early morning hours, a time when street crime incidents in Mexican cities tend to spike. Ensenada’s municipal police have increased overnight patrols in several colonias in recent months as part of broader public safety efforts.
No information has been released about the suspect’s identity or whether formal charges have been filed. The case remains under investigation by local authorities.
