Ensenada municipal police arrested a 49-year-old man on April 18 after he allegedly assaulted and threatened his 75-year-old mother inside her home in the Playas de Chapultepec neighborhood.
Officers responded to a citizen emergency call routed through Ensenada’s C5 surveillance and dispatch center. When they arrived at the residence, a woman outside the home flagged them down and directed them inside.
Suspect Detained on Domestic Violence Charges
Police identified the suspect as Israel N., using Mexico’s standard practice of withholding full surnames during active investigations. He was taken into custody on suspicion of domestic violence.
According to the police report, the 75-year-old victim had been physically assaulted and held under threat by her son inside the residence. Officers on patrol in the area diverted quickly to the scene after receiving the C5 dispatch.
Playas de Chapultepec: A Residential Area Near the Coast
Playas de Chapultepec is a largely residential neighborhood on Ensenada’s northern coastline, roughly 15 minutes south of the San Miguel toll booth on the Tijuana-Ensenada scenic highway. The area is home to both Mexican families and a small community of foreign residents.
Under Baja California’s domestic violence laws, suspects detained for family violence offenses can face charges that carry prison sentences depending on the severity of injuries. The state’s penal code treats violence against elderly victims as an aggravating factor, which can increase penalties.
How to Report Emergencies in Ensenada
Ensenada’s C5 center (Centro de Control, Comando, Comunicación, Cómputo y Calidad) operates 24 hours a day and coordinates emergency dispatch for municipal police, fire, and medical services. Residents and visitors can reach it by dialing 911 from any phone in Mexico. The center handles calls in Spanish, though some operators may speak limited English.
Israel N. was turned over to the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), Baja California’s state attorney general’s office, for processing. Formal charges had not been announced at the time of the report.
