Tijuana municipal police arrested a man wanted for aggravated homicide during a routine stop in Playas de Tijuana early Saturday morning, April 11.

Officers stopped Carlos Roberto, originally from Nogales, Sonora, on the streets of Del Rocío and Del Tifón in the Costa Hermosa section of Playas de Tijuana. A radio check revealed he had an active arrest warrant tied to a homicide committed in July 2025.

Routine Stop Leads to Warrant Discovery

The arrest took place during the early morning hours when officers on patrol conducted what appeared to be a standard stop. The radio verification flagged the outstanding warrant for aggravated homicide, a charge that carries stiffer penalties than standard homicide under Mexican law.

Carlos Roberto was transferred to the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), the Baja California State Attorney General’s office, where he will be presented before the judge who issued the warrant. Authorities did not release details about the July 2025 homicide case or specify where it occurred.

Playas de Tijuana: A Familiar Area for Expats

The Costa Hermosa neighborhood sits in the broader Playas de Tijuana district, a coastal area popular with both Mexican residents and foreign visitors. The zone is known for its beachfront boardwalk, restaurants, and proximity to the U.S. border. It is located roughly 20 minutes west of central Tijuana by car.

The arrest comes during a period of heightened law enforcement activity in Tijuana. Just days earlier, on April 9, a separate high-profile incident saw a state police commander fatally shot in the city during an operation to arrest a U.S. fugitive. That case, unrelated to Saturday’s arrest, drew international attention and led to a major manhunt.

Saturday’s detention in Playas de Tijuana was far less dramatic but points to the role routine patrols play in apprehending wanted individuals. The suspect had apparently been moving freely in the area before the stop.
