Baja California state police arrested a 22-year-old man on child abuse charges after finding two four-year-old children bound inside a home in Tijuana’s Colonia La Gloria neighborhood on April 6.
Officers from the Fuerza Estatal de Seguridad Ciudadana (FESC), the state’s civilian security force, responded to a citizen tip about possible child abuse at the residence. When they arrived, they found one child tied by the feet and crying. The second child had both hands bound.
Suspect Turned Over to Prosecutors
The suspect, identified only as Antonio N. under Mexican privacy law, was detained at the scene. Police transferred him to the Baja California Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE), the state attorney general’s office, to face formal child abuse charges.
The children’s mother told authorities this was not the first time the father had abused them. She confirmed a pattern of prior incidents, though specific details about earlier episodes were not disclosed.
Colonia La Gloria Location
Colonia La Gloria sits in the eastern section of Tijuana, in one of the city’s densely populated residential zones. The neighborhood is located roughly 15 minutes southeast of the San Ysidro border crossing by car.
Under Mexican law, child abuse charges can carry prison sentences ranging from two to seven years in Baja California, depending on the severity of the offense and whether the court finds a pattern of repeated harm. A judge will determine whether Antonio N. remains in pretrial detention or is released under conditions.
