Investigators have not publicly identified the suspects or announced any arrests. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, though the use of multiple gunmen in a vehicle is consistent with targeted violence seen across Baja California in recent years.

Residential Area South of Downtown Ensenada

Villas del Real IV is a residential subdivision located in the southeastern outskirts of Ensenada, away from the tourist corridor along the waterfront and downtown. The neighborhood sits in one of the city’s growing suburban zones, home mostly to working families.

Baja California has consistently ranked among Mexico’s most violent states. Tijuana dominates the state’s homicide statistics, but Ensenada has seen periodic spikes in targeted shootings. In May 2023, gunmen killed 10 people and wounded 10 others at an off-road racing event near San Vicente, south of Ensenada, in one of the region’s deadliest attacks in recent memory.

State and municipal authorities have not issued additional statements about the Sunday night shooting. No information has been released about whether the victims had any prior connection to criminal activity.
