Tijuana’s Municipal Sports Institute (IMDET) will hold the fourth stage of its Delegational Athletic 5K Series on Saturday, June 6, in the San Antonio de los Buenos neighborhood. The race starts and finishes near the El Rubí Sports Complex in the southern part of the city.

The event is part of a nine-stage circuit that rotates through Tijuana’s delegations throughout 2026. Each race covers five kilometers with varying levels of difficulty depending on the terrain of the host neighborhood. IMDET launched the series in early February, with registration opening on February 4 through the institute’s official site at imdettj.gob.mx/serial_atletico.

Collectible Medals and Registration Details

Registration for each stage costs 270 pesos (roughly $14 USD). As an incentive, participants who complete multiple stages collect medals that, when assembled, spell out “Tijuana 2026” alongside an image of Quetzalcóatl. The full series awards nine collectible medals.

San Antonio de los Buenos sits along the coast south of central Tijuana, near the Playas de Tijuana area. Runners heading to the El Rubí Sports Complex should allow extra time, as weekend traffic in the Playas corridor can be heavy. The neighborhood is accessible from the Tijuana-Ensenada scenic highway.

A Growing Running Culture in Tijuana

The Delegational 5K Series is one of several community running programs IMDET organizes each year. Tijuana’s running scene has grown steadily, with events like the Bésame Mucho 5K in February and the annual Tijuana 5000 race drawing large fields. The delegational series stands apart by bringing races directly into residential neighborhoods rather than staging them on major boulevards or parks.

Three stages have already been completed in other delegations this year. After Saturday’s race, five more stages remain on the 2026 calendar. IMDET has not yet published the full schedule of remaining locations.

Saturday’s race is open to runners and walkers of all levels. Spectators are welcome along the route near El Rubí Sports Complex. This story was first reported by Zeta Tijuana.
