Mexicali Mayor Norma Bustamante led the “México Imparable” community services fair on Saturday at the Centro de Desarrollo Humano Integral Centenario, bringing together federal, state, and municipal agencies to provide free assistance in health, housing, education, and public safety.

The one-day event distributed more than 200 economic stipends to students through the “Becar para Transformar” youth scholarship program. Infonavit, Mexico’s federal housing finance agency, formally canceled mortgages for eligible beneficiaries at the fair, granting them clear legal title to their homes.

Dozens of Agencies Under One Roof

Participating agencies spanned all three levels of government. Federal entities included IMSS (the Mexican Social Security Institute), Infonavit, SEDATU (the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development), the Secretaría de Salud, the Guardia Nacional, SEDENA (the Secretariat of National Defense), CFE (the Federal Electricity Commission), CONAGUA (the National Water Commission), and INEA (the National Institute for Adult Education).

State and municipal offices also staffed booths at the event. The consolidated format allowed residents to handle paperwork, receive health screenings, and resolve utility issues in a single visit rather than traveling to multiple government offices across the city.

A Recurring Model in Mexicali

The fair follows a pattern of community outreach events organized under Bustamante’s administration. In October, the mayor led a similar “DIF at Home” brigade in the Valle del Pedregal neighborhood, where residents received medical, nutritional, and psychological consultations along with food parcels and prescription eyeglasses.

Mexicali, the capital of Baja California with a population of roughly 854,000, sits directly across the border from Calexico, California. The Centro de Desarrollo Humano Integral Centenario, where Saturday’s fair took place, is a community center that regularly hosts government programs in the city’s central zone.

City officials have not announced a date for the next “México Imparable” event. Residents can monitor the municipal government’s social media channels for future editions. This story was first reported by Jornada BC.
