State Health Secretary Adrián Medina Amarillas announced the five-day deployment, which began Tuesday, June 9. Punta Colonet sits roughly 70 miles south of Ensenada along the Transpeninsular Highway (Highway 1), in an area with limited permanent healthcare infrastructure.
Services Available at the Mobile Clinics
The mobile units are equipped for general medicine consultations, dental care, and psychological counseling. The caravan also carries specialized diagnostic equipment, including clinical laboratory testing, chest X-rays, renal and obstetric ultrasounds, mammograms, bone densitometry scans, and electrocardiograms.
For residents of the Punta Colonet area, these services would normally require a drive of over an hour north to Ensenada or to private clinics along the coast. The Caravanas de la Salud program targets rural and underserved communities across Baja California, rotating mobile units through locations that lack hospitals or full-service clinics.
