A municipal medical clinic in Cabo San Lucas provided more than 1,053 health services during the first three months of 2026, with dental care topping the list of requested treatments. The Los Cabos Municipal Health Institute (Instituto Municipal de Salud) released the figures on April 12, reporting steady demand at the Altamira neighborhood clinic.
The facility, located in the Colonia Altamira area of Cabo San Lucas, offers five categories of care: general medical consultations, dental services, psychological counseling, nutrition guidance, and nursing. Dental appointments accounted for the largest share of the 1,053 visits logged between January and March.
Open to All, No Insurance Required
The clinic operates under the XV Ayuntamiento de Los Cabos, the current municipal government. It accepts all residents regardless of whether they hold IMSS, ISSSTE, or any other form of Mexican social security coverage. The only documentation required is a government-issued photo ID. For minors, a CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población, Mexico’s national identity number) is accepted instead.
Hours run from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily, a 12-hour window that covers both morning and evening availability. That schedule makes the Altamira clinic one of the more accessible public health options on the Cabo San Lucas side of the Los Cabos municipality.
A Low-Cost Alternative in a High-Cost Town
Los Cabos is home to several private hospitals, including Hospiten Cabo San Lucas near El Tezal and Saint Luke’s Hospital, both of which cater heavily to tourists and foreign residents. Private dental cleanings and consultations in Cabo San Lucas can run from $50 to $150 USD or more, depending on the provider.
Municipal clinics like the one in Altamira charge nominal fees or operate on a sliding scale, making them a practical option for routine, non-emergency care. The clinic does not handle emergencies or advanced procedures.
Colonia Altamira sits on the inland, residential side of Cabo San Lucas, away from the marina and tourist corridor. The neighborhood is home to many working families and longtime residents of the city. The clinic’s patient volume of more than 350 visits per month points to consistent demand in a part of town with fewer private medical options.
The figures were first reported by Colectivo Pericú and Radar Político.
