The 2026 Michelin Guide awarded a full star to Cocina de Autor Los Cabos and Green Stars to Acre and Flora’s Field Kitchen, giving Baja California Sur three starred restaurants for the first time. Three more earned Bib Gourmand honors, and 18 others across Los Cabos, Todos Santos, and La Paz received recommended listings. The awards, announced in May 2026, place BCS among the most recognized dining regions in Mexico.

Cocina de Autor Earns Los Cabos’ First Michelin Star

Chef Francisco Sixtos leads Cocina de Autor, located inside the Grand Velas resort on the tourist corridor between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. A Michelin star recognizes “excellent cooking” based on five criteria: quality of ingredients, mastery of technique, harmony of flavors, the chef’s personality expressed through the cuisine, and consistency across visits. Sixtos’ menu draws on Mexican culinary traditions reinterpreted through fine-dining technique, with tasting menus that typically start above 3,000 pesos (roughly $165 USD).

Michelin first expanded into Mexico in 2024 with a guide covering Mexico City. It added Los Cabos and other regions in subsequent editions. Cocina de Autor’s star makes it one of a small number of restaurants outside Mexico City to earn the distinction.

Acre and Flora’s Field Kitchen Earn Green Stars for Sustainability

The Michelin Green Star, introduced globally in 2020, honors restaurants committed to sustainable gastronomy. It recognizes practices like sourcing local ingredients, reducing waste, and supporting the surrounding ecosystem. Both Acre and Flora’s Field Kitchen sit in the agricultural corridor between San José del Cabo and the Sierra de la Laguna foothills, where a community of small farms has grown over the past decade.

Acre occupies a 25-acre property on the road to Todos Santos, about 15 minutes north of San José del Cabo. The restaurant grows herbs and produce on-site, raises animals, and sources from nearby ranches. Its outdoor dining room is set among mango trees, and the menu changes with seasonal availability. Dinner entrées range from roughly 400 to 900 pesos ($22 to $50 USD).

Flora’s Field Kitchen operates on Flora Farms, a 25-acre organic farm on the outskirts of San José del Cabo that has been cultivating produce in the desert climate since 1996. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner using ingredients harvested on the property, including lettuce, tomatoes, herbs, and eggs. Flora Farms also hosts a grocery, a bar, and cooking classes. Main dishes at Flora’s Field Kitchen typically cost between 350 and 700 pesos ($19 to $39 USD).

Both restaurants have become fixtures for visitors seeking an alternative to the resort corridor’s hotel dining. The Green Star recognition reflects a broader farm-to-table movement in BCS. The region’s arid climate and limited water supply make large-scale agriculture difficult, but small operations in the San José del Cabo foothills have built irrigation systems fed by underground springs. That local supply chain now supports a growing number of restaurants.

Bib Gourmand and Recommended Listings Span Three Cities

The Bib Gourmand designation honors restaurants offering high-quality meals at moderate prices. In the 2026 guide, three BCS restaurants earned the honor: Cocina de Campo by Agricole, Flora’s Field Kitchen (which also holds the Green Star), and Metate. Cocina de Campo by Agricole is located at the boutique hotel Agricole in the art district of San José del Cabo, serving a produce-driven menu with dishes typically under 500 pesos ($28 USD). Metate, also in San José del Cabo, focuses on traditional Mexican cuisine.

Beyond the starred and Bib Gourmand categories, the guide recommended 18 additional restaurants. The list spans fine dining, casual spots, and a bakery. Among those recommended: Al Pairo at Solaz, Benno, CarbónCabrón, Comal, Lumbre, Manta, Omakai, Oystera, and Ruba’s Bakery in Los Cabos. Also listed are LIMO Heritage Kitchen at Suelo Sur, Nemi, and Tenoch by Paradero. Los Tres Gallos, a longtime favorite in downtown San José del Cabo known for Mexican comfort food, also made the list. Todos Santos and La Paz each gained recommended listings, extending recognition beyond the resort zone for the first time.

Maribel Collins, head of BCS’s Secretariat of Tourism and Economy (SETUE), said the results reflect collaboration between local chefs, producers, and hospitality operators. She said the state government would continue investing in gastronomic promotion as part of its tourism strategy. Reservations at the starred restaurants often fill weeks in advance during high season, which runs from November through April. The full 2026 Michelin Guide for Mexico is available on the Michelin Guide website and app, as reported by the BCS state government.
