Municipal, state, and federal officials in Cabo San Lucas are organizing a youth soccer tournament on April 17 at the Don Koll Stadium as part of a national peace initiative. The mixed-gender event will bring together students and law enforcement personnel, with organizers expecting more than 300 attendees.
Part of National Jornadas por la Paz Program
The tournament falls under Mexico’s Jornadas por la Paz (Days of Peace) program, a federal strategy aimed at reducing youth violence through sports and civic engagement. Students from CECyTE BCS, the Colegio de Estudios Científicos y Tecnológicos de Baja California Sur (a state-run technical high school system), will compete alongside members of local law enforcement agencies.
The Don Koll Stadium, a 3,500-seat sports complex in Cabo San Lucas that also serves as home to Los Cabos F.C., will host the matches. The venue is located in the central part of town, accessible from the main boulevard.
Health and Safety Booths Planned
Beyond the soccer matches, the event will include information booths focused on health services and crime prevention. Government agencies will staff the booths to provide resources targeting young people in the Los Cabos municipality.
The Jornadas por la Paz initiative coordinates efforts across all three levels of Mexican government. The program uses organized sports as a tool to engage teenagers who might otherwise be vulnerable to recruitment by criminal organizations, a persistent concern across Baja California Sur.
Free and Open to the Public
The tournament is a government-organized community event and is expected to be free and open to the public. Families in the Cabo San Lucas area with teenagers may find it a useful connection point for local youth sports programming.
