Tijuana poet Olga Gutiérrez Galindo will present her fifth poetry collection, “En el nombre de π” (In the Name of π), at Librería El Grafógrafo in the Pasaje Rodríguez this Friday, April 17, at 6:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Eric Jair will provide commentary on the new work.
The book is published by Ediciones del Lirio and Los Pájaros: dibujos, libros, et al. It follows four previous collections: “ÍÍÉ” (Ediciones de la Esquina), “Emily” (CETYS Universidad, 2019), “Dark Matter” (Universidad de Guanajuato, 2019), and “Visitaciones” (Cinosargo Ediciones, 2021).
A Cross-Border Literary Career
Gutiérrez Galindo was born in Torreón, Coahuila, in 1951 and has long been based in Tijuana. She writes in both English and Spanish, often under the pen name enriKetta luissi. Under that pseudonym she has published additional poetry titles including “Ostrich Sky,” “Disclosed,” “In Vitro,” “Poetica Mathematica,” “Binaria,” and “Re-Versed,” along with the novel “El peso de los ovarios.”
Beyond her own writing, she serves as editor of the bilingual edition of the San Diego Poetry Annual and is a regional editor for the publication. She is also a member of the San Diego Haiku Study Group, making her one of the most active literary figures working across the Tijuana-San Diego border.
Recognition and Editing
In 2018, the Festival Internacional de Poesía Caracol Tijuana honored Gutiérrez Galindo “for her constant scientific and poetic work” during its 13th edition at the Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT). About 200 people attended that ceremony. The poet and visual artist Amaranta Caballero has served as her editor and has praised her work at public readings in Tijuana earlier this year.
Librería El Grafógrafo, located inside the Pasaje Rodríguez in Tijuana’s Zona Centro, is one of the city’s best-known independent bookshops. The pedestrian alleyway between Avenida Revolución and Calle Tercera houses galleries, cafés, and small shops, making it a familiar stop for those exploring downtown Tijuana on foot.
Friday’s reading offers a chance to hear directly from one of the border region’s most prolific bilingual poets. First reported by Semanario ZETA.
