The Los Cabos municipality held the second edition of its Domin Bike Miraflores 2026 cycling event in the rural community of Miraflores, part of a race series counting down to the traditional Fiesta de la Pitahaya in July. The municipal Sports Institute (Instituto del Deporte) organized the ride with logistical support from the fiscal inspection and sports coordination departments.
Local athletes took part in the event, which routes riders through the inland terrain surrounding Miraflores. The small town sits about 30 miles northeast of the San José del Cabo airport, at the foothills of the Sierra La Laguna mountain range. With a population of roughly 3,000, the community is known for its chorizo, organic produce, and leather goods.
What Is the Fiesta de la Pitahaya?
The Fiesta de la Pitahaya is one of the region’s signature summer events, held annually in July for more than 30 years. It celebrates the harvest of pitahaya, the sweet cactus fruit that grows on the tall cardón cacti found throughout the desert surrounding Miraflores. Festival dates depend on when the fruit ripens, but the celebration typically falls in the third week of July.
The festival was created by a former Miraflores mayor who wanted to bring economic activity to the town, inspired by the fishing tournaments that draw visitors to Cabo San Lucas. The centerpiece is a pitahaya gathering contest, where participants head into the desert to harvest the fruit. A festival queen is crowned, and local food vendors sell pitahaya-based drinks and dishes.
A Cycling Buildup to July
The Domin Bike series is designed as a lead-in to the July celebration, promoting physical activity and drawing attention to the Miraflores area in the weeks before the festival. This was the second ride in the 2026 series, with additional dates expected as summer approaches.
For those living in or visiting Los Cabos, Miraflores is accessible via a roughly one-hour drive from San José del Cabo, heading northeast on the Transpeninsular Highway. The area also draws hikers to Sierra La Laguna streams and hot springs year-round.
Details on upcoming rides and the 2026 Pitahaya Festival schedule have not yet been announced. The story was first reported by the Los Cabos municipal government at loscabos.gob.mx.
