The Los Cabos Open, an ATP 250 tournament and one of Latin America’s top professional tennis events, returns to the Cabo Sports Complex from July 25 to August 1 for its 10th anniversary edition. Defending champion Denis Shapovalov headlines the draw, a new 250-seat court has been built to meet ATP standards, and qualifying rounds on July 25 and 26 are free and open to the public.

From Startup Tournament to ATP Fixture Over Nine Years

The Los Cabos Open debuted in 2016, organized by Mextenis, the same group behind the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis in Acapulco. That first edition brought ATP-level competition to the southern tip of the Baja peninsula for the first time. The tournament has grown steadily since then, attracting players ranked in the world’s top 20 and drawing international broadcast coverage across multiple continents.

Past champions include Fabio Fognini (2018), Diego Schwartzman (2019), and Cameron Norrie (2021). Shapovalov, the Canadian lefthander who won the title last year, is confirmed to return as the marquee name for this anniversary edition. He reached a career-high ranking of No. 10 in 2022.

The tournament operates during a window on the ATP calendar that coincides with the North American hard court swing leading into the U.S. Open. That timing is deliberate. For Los Cabos, late July falls in the slower summer season, when high temperatures and humidity keep tourist numbers below the winter peak. Ana Gabriela Navarro, the municipal tourism director for the Los Cabos city government, said the event strategically boosts hotel occupancy during this period.

Hotel occupancy in Los Cabos typically dips below 60% in July, according to data from the Los Cabos Hotel Association. During tournament week in recent years, occupancy across the tourist corridor has climbed closer to 70%, with properties near the Cabo Sports Complex in San José del Cabo seeing the biggest gains.

New Court, New Sponsors, and Free Qualifying Days at Cabo Sports Complex

The 10th edition brings several upgrades. The Cabo Sports Complex, located on the northeast side of San José del Cabo near the Estero San José, has added a new Court 1 with a capacity of 250 spectators. The addition was required to meet ATP facility standards and will serve as the secondary show court for the week.

Two new sponsors have joined this year: Disney Cruise Line and Microbiot Fit. Disney Cruise Line launched its Baja California itineraries from San Diego in 2024, so the partnership aligns with the company’s expanding presence in the region. The full sponsor activation areas, including live music, food vendors, and interactive brand experiences, will be open throughout the tournament.

For those who want to see professional tennis without paying for tickets, the qualifying rounds on July 25 and 26 offer free admission. These early rounds feature players just outside the main draw competing for spots in the bracket. The level of play is high, and the intimate setting on the outer courts puts spectators just feet from the action.

Family programming returns for the anniversary edition. Kids Nite, an evening event designed for younger fans, and Family Day both take place during the qualifying stage. The Cantera CONADE program, a Mexican government initiative through CONADE (Mexico’s national sports commission), will also be present to showcase young Mexican tennis talent.

Ticket and Travel Details for the Tournament Corridor

Main draw matches begin on July 27 and run through the final on August 1. Tickets for main draw sessions have ranged from 500 to 3,000 pesos (roughly $28 to $167 USD) in previous years, with courtside and VIP packages priced higher. Official ticket sales typically open through the Mextenis website and Ticketmaster Mexico.

The Cabo Sports Complex sits about 10 minutes by car from downtown San José del Cabo and roughly 30 minutes from Cabo San Lucas along the tourist corridor. Parking at the complex is limited during tournament week, and rideshare or taxi is a practical alternative. Afternoon sessions can be hot, so hydration, sunscreen, and a hat are essential for courtside seating.

Restaurants and bars along the San José del Cabo art district, about a five-minute drive from the venue, fill up after evening sessions. Reservations during tournament week are worth making in advance.

The full draw and daily match schedule will be published closer to the event on the tournament’s official site and ATP tour page. This report is based on an announcement from the Los Cabos municipal government.
