The eighth annual state boxing championship “Un Golpe a la Delincuencia” (A Blow to Crime) will take place May 22 through 24 at the Rodrigo Aragón Ceseña Sports Complex in San José del Cabo. The three-day tournament is organized by the XV Ayuntamiento de Los Cabos and features high-performance amateur competition.

Three Days of Bouts Starting at 4 p.m.

Competition will begin each day at 4:00 p.m. on the futsal court inside the sports complex. The venue is located in central San José del Cabo and is open to the general public.

Patrick Jesús Rivera López, deputy director of the Los Cabos Municipal Sports Institute (INDEM), said the event aims to strengthen youth participation in positive activities and social integration. The tournament carries an explicit anti-crime message, pairing competitive athletics with community outreach.

Eight Years of Boxing in Los Cabos

Now in its eighth edition, the championship has become a fixture on the Baja California Sur amateur boxing calendar. The event draws competitors from across the state to compete in various weight classes over the three-day format.

Los Cabos has a growing boxing scene. The municipality hosted the “Los Cabos on Fire” professional card at the Auditorio Municipal de Cabo San Lucas in May 2023, and local gyms like Cabo Boxing and Fitness in Cabo San Lucas serve a steady community of fighters and fitness enthusiasts.

What to Know if You Want to Attend

The Rodrigo Aragón Ceseña Sports Complex is one of San José del Cabo’s main public athletic facilities. Late May falls outside peak tourist season, so the area around the venue is typically less crowded. Organizers have invited local families to attend and support the athletes throughout the three days of competition.

No admission fee has been announced. Spectators should expect an outdoor futsal court setting with limited shade, so hats and water are advisable for afternoon sessions in the Cabo heat.
