Municipal libraries across Los Cabos will host a free summer reading program for children and teens ages 3 to 14, running from July 6 through July 31. The program, called “Mis Vacaciones en la Biblioteca 2026” (My Vacation at the Library 2026), includes workshops, reading activities, and age-grouped sessions at five public libraries throughout the municipality.

Five Libraries, Two Themed Workshops

Participating locations include public libraries in San José del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas, Miraflores, Santiago, and La Ribera. Two workshops anchor the program: “¡Quién teme al lobo! ¿Feroz?” (Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?) and “Preguntas al estante” (Questions for the Shelf).

Both morning and afternoon sessions will be available, organized by age group. The schedule covers nearly four weeks during Mexico’s summer school holiday break, giving families consistent programming through the end of July.

How to Register

Registration is free and handled in person at any of the five participating libraries. Staff at each location can provide specific dates, session times, and any requirements for enrollment. No online registration has been announced.

The program is open to children from communities across the Los Cabos municipality, not just residents of the towns where the libraries are located. Families visiting from other parts of Mexico or living temporarily in the area can also inquire about participation.

A Resource for Families During School Break

Mexico’s summer school break typically runs from late June through mid-August, leaving several weeks without structured activities for school-age children. Municipal reading programs like this one are a common feature in Mexican cities during the break. The Los Cabos government organizes the initiative through its public library system.

The five library locations span the geography of the municipality, from the tourism centers of San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas to smaller communities like Miraflores, Santiago, and La Ribera along the East Cape corridor. Santiago sits about 50 kilometers south of San José del Cabo, while La Ribera is roughly 65 kilometers to the southeast on the Sea of Cortez coast.

The program was announced by the Los Cabos municipal government on its official website, loscabos.gob.mx.
