Eight local bands will share a stage with four nationally known rock acts at Rock Fundación 2026, a free outdoor festival in La Paz on May 16 and 17. The event at Parque Revolución marks the city’s 491st founding anniversary and is open to all ages, with no tickets required.
La Paz Rock Fundación 2026 Lineup Spans Local and National Acts
La Paz’s municipal culture department, led by director Juan Lara Guzmán, issued an open call for local bands earlier this spring. Twenty-two projects applied. A jury selected eight: No Somos Nada, Divided, Don Cardón, Dividier, Podrido por Dentro, The Why’s, Insomnia, and Child.Exe. These groups will perform alongside national headliners DLD, Allison, Resorte, and Jumbo across the two-day program.
The national acts carry real weight in Mexico’s rock and alternative scenes. DLD, a Mexico City group formed in 1998, is best known for hits like “Todo Cuenta” and “Arquitectura.” They have toured Latin America for over two decades and remain a draw at major festivals. Allison, also from Mexico City, blends pop-punk and alternative rock and has been active since 2001, with albums like “Memorama” earning platinum sales in Mexico.
Resorte brings a heavier sound. The Guadalajara band has been a fixture in Mexico’s nu-metal and rock scenes since the mid-1990s. Jumbo, originally from Monterrey, rounds out the headliners with an indie-rock catalog that stretches back to 1996. Their song “Siento Que” became one of the defining tracks of early-2000s Mexican rock radio.
For the local acts, the festival represents a rare chance to play before a large crowd on the same billing as established names. No Somos Nada and Divided are among the more recognized bands in La Paz’s small but active rock community. Don Cardón, whose name plays on the iconic cardón cactus native to Baja California Sur, is a newer project that has built a following through local bar gigs and social media in 2024 and 2025.
Parque Revolución Has Hosted La Paz’s Largest Public Events Since 2019
The festival takes place at Parque Revolución, a public green space in central La Paz that has served as the city’s primary outdoor event venue for major cultural programming. The park sits along the malecón corridor, within walking distance of restaurants, hotels, and the downtown historic district. Past city anniversary celebrations and public concerts have drawn thousands to the same location.
La Paz was founded on May 3, 1535, when Hernán Cortés landed at what is now the Bahía de La Paz. The city’s founding anniversary celebrations typically span several weeks in May, with cultural events, parades, and public performances organized by the municipal government. Rock Fundación has become one of the anchor events in that calendar, pairing the anniversary with live music aimed at younger audiences.
Mayor Milena Quiroga Romero has positioned the festival as part of a broader push to support local artists. Lara Guzmán told local media that the open-call format was designed to give emerging bands a structured path to a major stage, rather than relying solely on personal connections or bar-circuit reputation.
What to Know Before Attending the Festival at Parque Revolución
The event is free, with no registration or tickets. Both days are open to all ages. Parque Revolución is located in the centro histórico, roughly two blocks from the malecón. Street parking fills quickly during large events in the area, so arriving early or using a taxi is practical. Ride-hailing apps like InDriver and DiDi operate in La Paz and are a reliable option for getting to and from the park.
May temperatures in La Paz average highs near 33°C (91°F), and evening events can still be warm. Bringing water is a good idea, though food and drink vendors typically set up around the park perimeter during city-sponsored festivals. Shade is limited in the main event area.
Set times and the full schedule have not yet been released. The city’s culture department will post that information on its official social media channels in the days before the festival. Rock Fundación 2026 runs Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17, at Parque Revolución in central La Paz. This story was first reported by BCS Noticias.
