The Sudcalifornian Institute of Culture (ISC) will host a free two-day children’s cultural festival in La Paz on Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23. The event, called “Tilingo Lingo: Alas y Raíces en Juego,” takes place at the Unidad Cultural “Prof. Jesús Castro Agúndez” on the malecón in downtown La Paz.
Programming spans theater performances, creative workshops, philosophy sessions for teenagers, live music, and outdoor play areas. Kids who arrive by bicycle, scooter, or roller skates will find dedicated space for active play. All activities are free of charge with no registration required.
Multiple Venues, Parallel Programming
The Unidad Cultural campus includes a children’s library, an open-air theater, a convention center, and a gallery. Each space will run programming simultaneously across both days. This setup allows families to move between activities based on their children’s ages and interests.
The festival covers a wide age range, from toddlers to teenagers. The philosophy sessions are specifically designed for older youth, while workshops and theater shows cater to younger children.
Schedule and Contact Details
Doors open at 9:00 a.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The ISC has not published a detailed hour-by-hour schedule online, but families can call 612-122-9101 on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for specific programming details.
“Alas y Raíces” (Wings and Roots) is a national program run by Mexico’s federal culture ministry. It supports children’s cultural programming across the country through local partnerships with state institutions like the ISC. The “Tilingo Lingo” festival is part of that national effort, adapted locally for Baja California Sur.
The Unidad Cultural is located on Altamirano between Héroes de Independencia and Navarro, a short walk from La Paz’s waterfront malecón. Parking in the area can be limited on weekends, so arriving early or on foot is advisable.
