The Los Cabos Institute of Culture and Arts (ICA) will host a free open-air dance party in Santiago’s town plaza on Friday, May 2, starting at 6 p.m. The event, called “Baila la Plaza,” will feature music by DJ Azteca and is open to residents and visitors of all ages.

Santiago sits about 45 minutes north of San José del Cabo along the road toward the Sierra de la Laguna mountains. The small town is known for its quiet plaza, a modest zoo, and its proximity to hot springs and hiking trails in the surrounding foothills.

Part of a Rotating Municipal Program

The dance party is part of a rotating series organized by ICA to bring free cultural and recreational programming to communities across the Los Cabos municipality. The program moves between urban centers like Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo and smaller rural towns like Santiago, giving outlying neighborhoods access to organized entertainment.

No tickets or registration are required. The event takes place directly on the Santiago town plaza, the same square anchored by the town’s historic mission church.

A Low-Key Night Out Near the East Cape

For those living in or visiting the East Cape corridor, Santiago is one of the closest towns with a traditional Mexican plaza. The drive from Los Barriles takes roughly 40 minutes heading west on the paved road through the foothills. From San José del Cabo, take Highway 1 north toward La Paz and follow signs for the Santiago turnoff.

May 2 falls on a Friday evening, making it an easy addition to a weekend plan. The 6 p.m. start time allows for an early arrival before sunset, which in early May hits around 7:15 p.m. in the Los Cabos area.

The ICA regularly posts updates about upcoming Baila la Plaza events on the official Los Cabos municipal website. This report is based on information published by the Los Cabos municipal government at loscabos.gob.mx.
