The Los Cabos Institute of Culture and Arts (ICA) will host a free outdoor dance event this Saturday, May 23 at 6 p.m. in Plaza Antonio Mijares in San José del Cabo. The event is the latest installment of the recurring Baila la Plaza program, which transforms public squares across Los Cabos into open-air dance floors.

DJ Azteca will provide the music for the evening. The event is open to all ages and free of charge. Organizers welcome couples, friends, families, and solo attendees. Comfortable clothing is recommended.

A Recurring Program Across Los Cabos Plazas

Baila la Plaza has been running since at least March 2026, when the ICA launched a series of Saturday and Sunday evening sessions at multiple locations. Past events have taken place at Plaza León Cota Collins in Cabo San Lucas and the public plaza in Miraflores, a small town about 30 minutes north of San José del Cabo on Highway 1. All sessions start at 6 p.m.

The program is part of the municipal government’s broader effort to activate public spaces with cultural programming. The concept is simple: show up, dance however you like, no tickets required.

Plaza Mijares: The Heart of San José del Cabo

Plaza Antonio Mijares, commonly called Plaza Mijares, is the historic central square of San José del Cabo. It sits on Boulevard Antonio Mijares in the Centro district, framed by City Hall, the Misión San José del Cabo church, and the Casa de la Cultura. The plaza is a short walk from the Art District galleries and the restaurants along Calle Benito Juárez.

For those driving from Cabo San Lucas, the plaza is roughly 30 kilometers (about 19 miles) east along the Transpeninsular Highway. Street parking near the plaza can fill up on weekend evenings, so arriving early is a good idea.

Saturday’s Baila la Plaza event was announced by the Los Cabos municipal government on its official website, loscabos.gob.mx.
