Five sport fishing captains based in Baja California Sur have earned spots on FishingBooker’s Angler’s Choice 2026 list, an annual ranking of the top charter operators worldwide. The recognition places Los Cabos alongside Quintana Roo as the Mexican states with the most winners.

The Five BCS Winners

The honored operators all work out of the Los Cabos corridor. They are Black Marlin Sportfishing, Picudo Sportfishing, Salvador’s Sportfishing, Cabo Sportfishing Crew, and Sufishiente Sportfishing. The five are split between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo.

Only 15 captains across all of Mexico made the cut. That means BCS accounts for one third of the country’s total, tied with Quintana Roo on the Caribbean coast. The award drew from a pool of more than 9,400 charter service providers around the world, evaluated on their 2025 performance data.

What It Takes to Qualify

The Angler’s Choice criteria go beyond simple star ratings. To qualify, captains must hold a minimum 4.8-star average from verified customer reviews. They must also complete at least 98% of scheduled trips with minimal cancellations. Fast response times to booking inquiries and up-to-date legal and safety documentation are also required.

FishingBooker, an online marketplace for fishing charters, uses these metrics to rank operators globally. The platform processes bookings in dozens of countries, making the award a data-driven benchmark rather than a subjective editorial pick.

Los Cabos and Sport Fishing

The recognition adds to a long list of accolades for the Los Cabos fishing fleet. The waters off the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula are home to blue and black marlin, striped marlin, sailfish, tuna, wahoo, and dorado. The region hosts major international tournaments each year, including the Bisbee’s Black and Blue and the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament, now in its 28th year.

For anyone booking a charter in Los Cabos, a valid Mexican sport fishing permit is required by law. Permits can be purchased through FONMAR, a trust of the Baja California Sur state government created to simplify the licensing process and support marine conservation.
